The Brit Boys are Back in Town

Captured in this moment were members of the Coldstream Guards, Britain's long-standing infantry regiment, photographed during a military exercise in Germany, 1977. The Coldstream Guards have maintained an active Regiment for the Crown since the 1650s and have been continuously deployed through the world wars, British Cold War expeditions, operations against the IRA during the Troubles, and, in the 90s and 2000s, US-led missions in Gulf War I, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

In the image you can see the issued L1A1 SLR (Self Loading Rifle), a derivative of the Belgian FAL made under license for the British Commonwealth countries. The FAL was deployed across NATO countries and came to be known as "The Right Arm of the Free World" and the L1A1 served as a standard United Kingdom weapon for over 40 years.

Although the FALs have mostly been retired from western militaries, along with the L1A1, and replaced by more modern small arms, the Coldstream Guards remain.
